Your Guide to Fly-In Pancake Breakfasts in Minnesota & Wisconsin 2026

2026 guide to fly-in pancake breakfasts across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Dates, locations, and tips for attending these beloved GA aviation community events.

There's a tradition in general aviation that has nothing to do with speed records, glass cockpits, or instrument approaches. It involves pancakes, sausage, and an airport ramp full of airplanes parked next to each other while their pilots stand around with paper plates, drinking bad coffee, and talking about flying. It's the fly-in pancake breakfast, and it's one of the best things about being a pilot.

If you've never been to a fly-in breakfast, here's the deal: a local EAA chapter, flying club, airport authority, or community group hosts a breakfast at their airport. Pilots fly in from around the region. You eat pancakes. You look at airplanes. You talk to people who love aviation as much as you do. It's simple, it's wholesome, and it's been a cornerstone of the GA community for decades.

Here's what's on the calendar for the 2026 season in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Breezy Point Aviation Day — May 2, 2026

Where: Breezy Point Airport, Muller Field (8MN3) When: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Kicking off the season in early May, Breezy Point Aviation Day is a great excuse to make a spring cross-country to the Brainerd Lakes region. The event features a pancake breakfast, aircraft displays, and a chance to explore one of Minnesota's most scenic airport areas. If you're flying in from the Twin Cities, it's about an hour in a typical trainer — a perfect day trip.

Good to know: 8MN3 is a private-use airport, so check NOTAMs and any event-specific instructions before flying in. The Brainerd Lakes area is gorgeous in early May as everything greens up.

Great Minnesota Aviation Gathering (GMAG) — May 15–16, 2026

Where: Buffalo Municipal Airport (CFE) When: All day, both days

GMAG is more than a pancake breakfast — it's the Minnesota Pilots Association's signature event and one of the largest GA gatherings in the state. Held at Buffalo Municipal Airport, the event features fly-in camping, seminars, vendor exhibits, aircraft displays, and yes, a great breakfast. West Metro Aviation operates at Buffalo and can help with fuel and parking.

Good to know: GMAG draws pilots from across the state and beyond. If you want to camp with your airplane, plan ahead — camping spots fill up. The MPA puts together a solid lineup of seminars covering safety, regulations, and flying skills.

Brodhead, Wisconsin Pancake Breakfast — May 17, 2026

Where: Brodhead Airport (C37), Brodhead, Wisconsin When: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Hosted by EAA Chapter 431, the Brodhead pancake breakfast is a classic small-airport fly-in event. Brodhead has a rich aviation history — the airport is home to a significant collection of vintage and warbird aircraft, and the Brodhead chapter is one of the most active in Wisconsin.

Good to know: Brodhead is in southern Wisconsin, making it accessible from both the Madison area and northern Illinois. The vintage aircraft on display are worth the trip alone.

Redwood Falls Rotary Fly-In Pancake Breakfast — June 28, 2026

Where: Redwood Falls Airport (RWF) When: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Here's why pilots love this event: pilots flying in eat free, and there's a $0.30/gallon fuel discount. The Redwood Falls Rotary Club puts on a great event with breakfast, aircraft displays, and a welcoming small-town atmosphere.

Good to know: Redwood Falls Municipal Airport has a 4,200-foot paved runway. The fuel discount alone makes this a worthwhile stop on a cross-country through southwestern Minnesota. The town of Redwood Falls is charming and worth exploring if you have time.

Sauk Centre Fly-In Cruz-In Pancake Breakfast — July 19, 2026

Where: Sauk Centre Airport (D39) When: Starting at 6:00 AM

Another event where PICs eat free and a fuel discount is offered. The Sauk Centre fly-in benefits Patriot Assistance Dogs, so your breakfast dollars go to a great cause. This event also includes a car show ("Cruz-In"), so there's something for everyone — airplanes and classic cars in one place.

Good to know: Sauk Centre is the hometown of Sinclair Lewis, the first American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. The town has a literary museum if you're looking for something to do after breakfast. D39 has a 3,250-foot paved runway.

Lake Elmo Airport EAA Chapter 54 Pancake Breakfast — August 9, 2026

Where: Lake Elmo Airport (21D) When: Morning (check EAA Chapter 54 for exact times)

Lake Elmo Aero is the resident FBO and flight school at 21D, one of the most popular GA airports in the east metro. The EAA Chapter 54 pancake breakfast is a chapter fundraiser supporting youth aviation scholarships — so you're helping the next generation of pilots while enjoying a stack of pancakes.

Good to know: Lake Elmo Airport is an easy hop from anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. The airport has a 2,850-foot turf runway and a 2,497-foot paved runway. It's a great field to visit if you haven't been — the setting is beautiful and the flying community there is welcoming.

Tips for Fly-In Breakfast First-Timers

If you've never flown into a pancake breakfast, here are some things to know:

Radio Calls at Busy Uncontrolled Fields

Fly-in events can get busy, especially at smaller airports. Listen carefully on the CTAF as you approach. Keep your calls concise:

  • "Redwood Falls traffic, Cessna 1234A, 10 miles to the south, inbound for landing, Redwood Falls"
  • Expect non-standard patterns or special procedures — some events designate a specific runway or arrival direction
  • Be patient. When 30 airplanes are trying to land at a 3,000-foot strip, things move slowly. That's okay.

Parking

  • Follow the marshaller's instructions. Events will have volunteers directing you where to park
  • Bring your own tie-downs and chocks — don't assume the airport has extras
  • Leave your airplane in a state where it can be moved if needed (parking brake off, chocks in)

What to Bring

  • Cash — not all events accept cards for breakfast or raffle tickets
  • Lawn chairs if you want to sit and watch airplanes land
  • Sunscreen, hat, and water — you'll be on a ramp in the sun
  • A camera — you'll see some amazing airplanes at these events

The Culture

Fly-in breakfasts are one of the most welcoming events in aviation. Nobody cares if you showed up in a brand-new Cirrus or a 1960 Cessna 150. The only requirement is a love of flying and a willingness to eat pancakes. If you're a student pilot, these events are a fantastic way to meet experienced pilots, see a variety of aircraft, and feel like part of the aviation community.

Finding More Events

The events listed here are confirmed for 2026, but there are dozens more fly-in breakfasts, hangar dances, airport open houses, and aviation gatherings across Minnesota and Wisconsin throughout the season. The MnDOT Aeronautics office maintains a calendar of fly-in events that's worth checking regularly as summer approaches.

Use the Aeradex directory to find FBOs, fuel, and services at any airport you're planning to visit. And if you host a fly-in event at your airport, let us know — we'd love to help spread the word.
