Best FBOs in the Twin Cities: A Pilot's Guide (2026)

We visited every major FBO in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro to help you decide where to park, fuel up, and get the service you need.

Whether you're based in the Minnesota and Wisconsin or flying in for a fuel stop, choosing the right FBO can make or break your experience. The Twin Cities has one of the strongest general aviation ecosystems in the Midwest, with the Metropolitan Airports Commission operating seven airports — and each one has a different personality.

We visited every major FBO in the metro to help you decide where to park, fuel up, and get the service you need.

Thunderbird Aviation — Flying Cloud Airport (FCM)

Best for: Local pilots who want everything under one roof

Thunderbird has been the anchor tenant at Flying Cloud since 1962 — longer than most FBOs in the country have existed. What makes them unique is the sheer breadth of what they offer: full-service fuel (100LL and Jet-A), flight training from Private through ATP, aircraft charter, maintenance, and hangar rental. If you need something aviation-related in the southwest metro, Thunderbird probably does it.

The ramp is well-maintained, the line crew knows what they're doing, and the pilot lounge has everything you'd expect — Wi-Fi, coffee, flight planning, snooze room. They also operate a second location at Crystal Airport (MIC) for north metro pilots.

Fuel: 100LL & Jet-A Standout: 60+ years of continuous operation. Crew cars available. Full maintenance shop on site. Contact: (952) 941-1212

Premier Jet Center — Flying Cloud Airport (FCM)

Best for: Corporate/business aviation

If you're flying a turbine aircraft into the Twin Cities and want white-glove service without the MSP International hassle, Premier Jet Center is the move. They operate the largest hangar at Flying Cloud — 35,000 square feet — and their team is built around business aviation.

Premier is a Paragon Network member and CAA Preferred FBO, which tells you something about the caliber of service. Aircraft maintenance is handled through their FAA Part 145 repair station, and they offer full aircraft management and sales through their parent company, Fargo Jet Center.

Fuel: Jet-A (primary), 100LL available Standout: Largest hangar on the field. Concierge service. After-hours on-call. Contact: (952) 641-2020

St. Paul Flight Center — St. Paul Downtown Airport (STP)

Best for: Independent service, competitive fuel prices, closest FBO to both downtowns

St. Paul Flight Center is the locally owned underdog competing against Signature at Holman Field, and a lot of Twin Cities pilots actively choose them for exactly that reason. You get personalized service, competitive fuel pricing, and none of the chain-FBO markup.

The location is hard to beat — STP is the closest airport to both downtown St. Paul (2 miles) and downtown Minneapolis (under 15 miles), with the longest runway in the reliever system at 6,491 feet. If you're flying corporate passengers to meetings in either city, STP with St. Paul Flight Center is the efficient choice.

Fuel: 100LL & Jet-A Standout: Locally owned. Competitive pricing. Closest reliever to both downtowns. Contact: (651) 290-0720

Signature Flight Support — St. Paul Downtown Airport (STP)

Best for: Consistent national-chain experience

Signature is the world's largest FBO network, and their STP location delivers the standardized experience their customers expect. If you have a Signature TailWings account or your company has negotiated fuel pricing through the network, this is your default stop in the Twin Cities.

Fuel: 100LL & Jet-A Standout: Global FBO network. TailWings loyalty program. Consistent service standards. Contact: (651) 297-1611

Signature Flight Support — MSP International

Best for: GA/corporate access to the international airport

If you need to be at MSP specifically — maybe you're picking up passengers connecting from a commercial flight, or your operation requires the international airport — Signature's FBO at MSP handles general aviation and corporate traffic. Most GA pilots in the metro avoid MSP unless they specifically need it. But when you need it, Signature is your only option on the field.

Fuel: 100LL & Jet-A Standout: Only GA FBO at MSP International. Full international customs capability. Contact: (612) 726-5000

Thunderbird Aviation — Crystal Airport (MIC)

Best for: North metro pilots, turf runway access

Thunderbird's second location at Crystal gives north metro pilots the same quality of service without the drive to Eden Prairie. Crystal is smaller and quieter than Flying Cloud, which some pilots prefer. MIC is also one of the few MAC airports with a turf runway, which is a draw for tailwheel pilots.

Fuel: 100LL Standout: Turf runway access. Quieter field. North metro convenience. Contact: (763) 533-4162

How to Choose the Right Twin Cities FBO

Flying a piston single for training or recreation? Thunderbird at FCM or MIC, depending on which side of the metro you're on.

Flying a turbine/corporate aircraft? Premier Jet Center at FCM for the best hangar and business aviation focus. St. Paul Flight Center at STP if you want to be closer to downtown.

Want the cheapest fuel? Call around — St. Paul Flight Center and the self-serve pumps at Fleming Field (SGS), Airlake (LVN), and Lake Elmo (21D) are typically the most competitive.

Flying into MSP specifically? Signature at MSP is your only GA option.

Value independent, local service? St. Paul Flight Center. No contest.
